What a lovely mothers day-or two!

Had a great weekend with my lovely daughter who came for a girlie crafting weekend- and a glass of wine ot two....

We made some cards for my mums upcoming 80th birthday, and went thro loads of old photos in the process- how funny some of them were from when i was little and the kids were little! Here are the completed cards

Sarah bought my mothers day presents in Ghana!  here are the wonderful african wax prints

Cant wait to come up with a plan for them! In addition she bought me a beautiful picture on canvas- needs framing so watch this space!

We gave up on cooking last night so went up to the local Indian restaurant for a meal which was delicious. Ate far too much as usual!

Ths morning she showed me how to make a zippered pouch and here is my first attempt- needs more care next time, but know I know how to do it!

And finally, after sarah went home to do some marking, I decided to clear out my office/spare room/computer room.... goodbye to all my degree work - since I hadnt looked at it for the last 20 years I dont think I am going to need it anytime soon!

In addition to the rubbish I have loads of stuff for the charity shops and lots of things for ebay!

And here is a very tidy cupboard....
In the middle of all this my son called to wish me Happy Mothers day- I missed the call because I had bluegrass playing too loudly- but I called him straight back and had a chat. He is up to his eyes with his dissertation and will graduate in July with a degree in Japanese!

I rounded off the day with a soak in the bath........very content and relaxed, with that feeling of smugness you get when you have achieved a lot in one day!

Thursday catch up....

Work done-

Tablemats and a card for Mothers day- mounted this old photo of me and my brother and sister along with my mum- approx 1965-  dont you love the NHS spectacles??

Thursday is my day off whenever possible- so a little trip to a localish fabric store that is closing down which had 50% off everything! I know, a fabricaholics nightmare! I had already visited a little while ago when it was only 25% off!
This is what I came home with-

I have a purple urge at the moment! I can feel another Jane Brocket coming on!!
I also grabbed a big cutting mat for my talented daughter!

On the way home I picked up some tulips to brighten up the grey day! Dont forget to stick a pin thro thestem at the base of the flower of a tulip so that they stand upright and open up !

And here is the completed quilt top using stitch in colour fabric- by Malka Dubrawsky in a Bento box design.

Lunch time!!x

Busy doing nothing....

Well, except a bit of sewing,  bit of reading and a bit of film watching..........
I read The Tsunami Countdown pretty much in one sitting as I couldnt put it down! Bit of a far fetched thriller but as I know Hawaii well it brought back memeories of my vacations there.
Last night I watched Argo to see what al the awards were about- have to say I really enjoyed it although it wouldnt count in my list of favorite ever films! Then I watched Mary and Martha this morning on iplayer- a great location for a very sad but moving story based on real events- it didnt get a good review but it would encourage me to donate towards eradicating malaria.

Now the sewing stuff- decided to tackle a Kaffe Fasset style quilt with his fabrics, and came across this one from Jane Brocket's The gentle Art of Quilt Making- another blogger made this  and I pinned it- I fell in love with hers so decided to do my own.

Just needs backing and quilting and binding! and then it may be headed for a friends birthday if I can bear to part with it!

This is todays project- Modas  stich in colour jelly roll by Malka Dubrawsky is headed for a bento box quilt - probably lap size and probably for a wedding gift.

And finally- a real cute strawberry!!!
